Before you decide to answer a question, be sure it is clear in your mind what the question is. There is no harm in trying to understand what's being asked. Be polite and ask "I apologize, but I'm not sure if I comprehend what you're asking Would you mind changing the way you phrase it?" You'll be able to express yourself better in such an instance than speaking in the same voice with no sense of clarity and understanding. Keep in mind that the goal of answering questions is for you to provide a valuable contribution to the person looking for an answer. Don't be a waste of time. Seek understanding first.

A way to increase the effectiveness of answering an inquiry in a pertinent and objective way is if you give the person who is asking you the question to finish asking.
